Happy New Year!

Although 2012 was an interesting year in many ways, most folks are happy it is over.  It doesn't seem like anyone was having the best year ever, so let us move on to 2013.  Happy New Year!!!

In January 2013, we can look forward to a new season of Mob Wives returning to VH1.  We can also look forward to some cool movies being released at the theater, such as A Haunted House and Mama.  Yes, already 2013 is shaping up to be a good year for entertainment.

In 2013, I will be trying out many new smoothie recipes to share with readers.  If you think about it, smoothies are the ultimate food for the couch potatoes of the world.  You don't even have to bother with chewing!  Why focus on all that work when operating the remote control already takes so much energy?

Putting Too Much Thought Into "The Shining"

I could be watching a movie I've never seen before.  I could be attempting to do something productive with chores or errands.  But no, I am watching "The Shining" again.  I am starting to wonder a few things about it though.

First of all, who hires some dude to stay in the middle of nowhere for 5 months with his wife and kid when he already seriously injured that child?  Perhaps child abuse laws were pretty relaxed in the 70s.  Maybe no official investigation ever occured.  All of that seems strange, but OK.  However, why on earth does Wendy, the mother, think it is a great idea to go on this adventure?  Her husband obviously has issues.  Why go in the middle of nowhere with that creep?

Furthermore, why is there still electricity when there is a blizzard and the phone lines are out?  I could believe the generator might kick on for emergency exits, but if there is a terrible blizzard and the phone lines are down, I refuse to believe the electricity is on.  So what is the deal?  Why am I watching psycho Jack Nicholson right now in a well-lit motel?  I just don't get it. 

Also, I don't understand why I am even thinking about this right now.  I've only seen this movie about a million times.  Now is not the time to ponder over these issues.  I need to get a life.  And I need to focus on the next violent horror flick I am going to watch since it is so close to Halloween.

Horror Movie Lessons

Sometimes you have to learn things the hard way in life.  Other times, you can learn valuable life lessons just by watching horror movies.  You don't believe me?  Well, let me clue you in on some things you've probably already learned just by watching horror movies.

If an axe murderer is chasing you, don't you try to run out the door instead of running up the stairs?  Thanks, horror movies!  We now know that is the rule.

If you have to go into the woods, do you go alone or take a friend along?  Of course you take your friend with you!  You know if you split up the crazed killer will get you!

When you meet a new man with mommy issues, don't you think he might be a creep that tries to kill you in the shower?  Of course!  You can thank Alfred Hitchcock for that one.

Would you ever drop the knife or the gun just because you believe the killer is dead?  Never!  The killer never dies the first time around.  You must remain prepared.

All of this knowledge comes from watching horror movies.  Where would we be without them?  Probably dead in a ditch somewhere, that is where.  So before you insult horror movies, I suggest you take a second look at them and discover how useful they truly are.

Best Moments from A Christmas Story

Last night, I took some time to describe one of my favorite Christmas movies, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, so I thought I would take some time to talk about another favorite.  My other favorite Christmas movie is A Christmas Story.

Once again, this is another movie most people are familiar with.  However, if you don't know about A Christmas Story, it is basically a movie about a child and his quest to get a BB gun for Christmas.  He faces many obstacles, but the movie is actually hilarious.  It features a tacky leg lamp, a turkey dinner stolen by dogs, and an angry mall Santa.  The movie certainly has something for everyone.

Due to the movie's popularity, TNT shows a full 24 hours of A Christmas Story every year for Christmas.  So basically, you have no excuse for not seeing this movie.  You can even buy a ton of A Christmas Story merchandise if you like.  You can wrap your gifts in A Christmas Story wrapping paper!

Favorite Moments from National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

Since the holidays are fast approaching, I thought I would kindly add a couple of Christmas movie blog posts.  Holiday movies are really not my thing, however, I do make a couple of exceptions.  The first exception I would like to discuss is National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.

Most people have seen it, but just in case you've been living under a rock for the past decade or two, National Lampoon's Vacation focuses on the Griswold family and their Christmas vacation.  It includes all of the annoying parts of Christmas, including lights that don't work, attempting to find a tree, and annoying relatives.  Furthermore, it includes Cousin Eddie and you've just got to have him in a National Lampoon's Vacation movie, or there is no point.  You ever see National Lampoon's European Vacation?  I rest my point.

Basically, you can enjoy fun stuff like seeing squirrels attack people, things blow up, the SWAT team break in stuff, and Chevy Chase have a meltdown.  Of course, there is also a scene with a hot chick paying attention to Chevy Chase, which I am pretty sure he must negotiate to have in every movie.  So, since I am sure you are excited to watch some clips, let's check out some awesome moments from National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation:

Happy Pre-Halloween!

Yes, it is not Halloween yet, but it is the weekend.  Since nothing is better than the weekend, I would say it is time to let the festivities begin!  The best way to celebrate Halloween on a lazy Sunday is by eating lots of junk food and watching scary movies.  Some scary movies I would highly recommend are:

You know you've always wanted to be a celebrity, so get off the couch and dress like a Hollywood star this Halloween!  Can't decide who you'd like be?  No problem.  There are plenty to choose from and plenty of recommendations for costumes at The Best Celebrity Halloween Costumes.

Perhaps you've always wanted to be Marilyn Monroe or maybe Elvis Presley. This Halloween is the perfect time to do it!  Live out your fantasy by being a celebrity this Halloween!

Even if you can't buy a costume online, there is no need why you can't make one up.  Maybe you already look like a celebrity, but you just need to change the wardrobe a little.  Perhaps you can be James Dean or Burt Reynolds.  Maybe you've already got the moustache... if not, there is still time to grow one.  So roll out the red carpet and dress like you're ready for Hollywood the Halloween.

Making Your Own Insidious Halloween Costume

If you are looking for the perfect creepy movie themed Halloween costume, you need to check out Creating Your Own "Insidious" Halloween Costume.  With so many ghoulish characters to pick from, your main problem will be narrowing down which scary Insidious character you'd like to be this Halloween.  You can choose from characters like the Red Demon / Fire Demon, the Creepy Old Lady, or the Creepy Doll Girl Ghosts.  Don't forget there are plenty of other fun characters if don't want to be scary, such as the Ghost Hunter Nerds or even Psychic Elise.  If you have children, they may want to pretend they are Dalton or the little Demon Kid.

With so many fun Halloween Costume options, you may even want to have an Insidious Halloween Party.  You could even play Tiptoe Through the Tulips by Tiny Tim all night.  A good time will be had by all!

The Ending of Insidious

SPOILER ALERT: Do not read this post if you have not yet watched Insidious.

Anyone who is familiar with this blog must realize I am a little obsessed with Insidious.  After watching it about 5 or 6 times recently (I bought the DVD last weekend), I have come up with a theory about the ending of the movie.

Of course, at the end, we are to believe that the ugly old lady has taken possession of Josh's body.  I daresay I also believe the demon has taken over Dalton's body, as well.  The next time you watch the movie, take notice that the psychic does not go anywhere near Dalton.  She is more focused on Josh.  Dalton is wisked away by his grandmother and mother.  He only states the he is hungry and tired.  We do not see enough of Dalton to determine if he is OK. 

What I believe happened is the demon took over Dalton's body and the old lady took over Josh's body.  In the scene when people are returning to their bodies, you never see who really gets back into each body.  I firmly believe Dalton is not in his body either. 

I am assuming there will be at least one sequel.  I am curious to see if the second movie only focuses on Josh being possessed.  It is possible it will focus on Josh so there will be a third movie about Dalton.  I am very curious to see how this plays out.  Sorry if I ruined to movie for anyone!

Insidious is No Longer Making Me Lose Sleep

You may recall in an earlier blog post how I described that the movie Insidious was making me lose sleep.  Hey, I even wrote an article about it on Hubpages. 

I have to admit, I bought the DVD today and discovered it is not that scary to me anymore!  There is something about seeing it on the big screen that makes it horrifying.  Not to mention, now I already know when the scary parts are going to pop up in the movie.  It may sound nuts, but I was hoping to be traumatized again by it.  But nope.  Now I know what to expect and when to expect it.

If you are buying Insidious on DVD, I recommend watching it in the dark and a large TV if you have not seen it before.  You want to get that "big screen" effect to really be scared.  So turn off the lights and turn up the volume and happy nightmares to you!

Make It a Nerdtacular Night!

Last night was a great night for dorks and nerds everywhere.  I was pretty excited to find out the Family Channel was making it a "Harry Potter Weekend" starting Thursday (last night).  A little while later, I was pleased to learn that The Matrix was on AMC.  Naturally, I was forced to switch back and forth between The Matrix and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.  I was pretty lucky considering the channels were running the commercials at different times.

Tonight, there will more Harry Potter movies on the Family Channel and more Matrix movies on AMC.  What a great Friday night.  I will probably sneak some Ghost Adventures viewing into tonight as well.  Wow!  What a dorktacular night!
