Happy New Year!

Although 2012 was an interesting year in many ways, most folks are happy it is over.  It doesn't seem like anyone was having the best year ever, so let us move on to 2013.  Happy New Year!!!

In January 2013, we can look forward to a new season of Mob Wives returning to VH1.  We can also look forward to some cool movies being released at the theater, such as A Haunted House and Mama.  Yes, already 2013 is shaping up to be a good year for entertainment.

In 2013, I will be trying out many new smoothie recipes to share with readers.  If you think about it, smoothies are the ultimate food for the couch potatoes of the world.  You don't even have to bother with chewing!  Why focus on all that work when operating the remote control already takes so much energy?

America's Funniest Home Videos

This is not so much a blog post as it is a random thought... how on earth is America's Funniest Home Videos still on TV?

After all these years, you can still watch people getting hit in the crotch, people falling down stairs, and animals and babies do ridiculously cute things.  People are still watching this show!

I really would not even know this show still existed except my parents insist on watching it.  I suppose I can't even judge the reasoning behind keeping this show on the air.  Considering my parents will watch the same old clips mixed with a few new clips over and over again, there is always going to be an audience for this show. 

Voice Activated Televisions

Recently, I've been hearing a lot of talk about voice activated TVs.  Apparently a number of companies are trying to create this.  I don't know about you, but I want to voice my unhappiness about this right now.  I am not interested in a voice activated TV. 

All day long, I have to be polite the the people I work with, friendly with people I meet on the street, and when I make a call to any company's number I have to talk to an automated service.  I am tired of it!  Now, when I get home and I can finally get some peace and quiet, am I going to have to have a conversation with my television, too? NO!  I refuse! 

I love my TV.  It is the one thing that won't argue with me.  I can just use a remote control and it is awesome.  Why are companies trying to complicate something so easy and simple?  As an example, my bank recently changed their extremely easy phone system to a more complex, super annoying phone system that I have to talk to in order to just hear my account balance.  I used to punch in some numbers and I was done.  Now I have to talk to something that is not human and I have to speak clearly or it gets confused.  Back in the good old days, I could have a mouthful of food and still use the system.  I can no longer enjoy that simplicity.  I have to be polite to a machine.

I can't stand the thought that I may have that simple joy taken away from me and my TV viewing.  Perhaps some people that lose the remote all the time might like this, but not me.  Please please please... any executives from any companies that make televisions that read this (fat chance, I know), don't take away my one simple pleasure in life.  Please don't make us all have voice activated TVs.  I might actually just opt to read or something instead.

The Soup is Moving!

It is no secret that one of my favorite shows is The Soup on E! Channel.  The Soup has been airing on Friday nights for what seems like forever now.  For some reason, E! has opted to switch nights.

Starting November 30th, The Soup moves to Wednesday nights at 10 pm.  I am trying to decide how I feel about that move.  In some ways, it is better that way since there are a number of other cool things a person can be doing on a Friday night.  However, I like to watch the SyFy channel on Wednesday nights (I am watching it now!) so that will take away from my usual schedule.  Of course, I will probably pick The Soup anyway... I just love Joel McHale.

So, for any of you fans out there, remember that next week you need to start watching The Soup at 10 pm on Wednesday.

Too Much Towing?

I know what you probably lie awake asking yourself at night: How many reality TV shows can actually be about tow trucks and tow truck adventures?  Apparently, you can have at least 4 reality shows that completely revolve around the concept of repossessing or towing vehicles.  Amazing, isn't it?  How?  Why?  Can it really be that interesting?  Furthermore, one channel, TruTV, is the source for all these shows.  Is there really that much of an audience for this?  Obviously they must be getting ratings or these shows could not exist.

The 4 reality TV shows on the air about towing companies are now:

• Operation Repo
• Lizard Lick Towing
• South Beach Tow
• Bear Swamp Recovery

Each show claims to be totally unique.  For instance, it appears each person starring in Bear Swamp Recovery is overweight.  Stop laughing... really, this is how the commercial makes it seem.  I am not sure how America can possibly be ready for 4 tow truck shows, but TruTV thinks we are.  So if you are really into seeing people have their cars repossessed, this is a great time for television programming for you.

To all of you Couch Potatoes out there, you know one of the most important aspects to TV viewing is not actually getting up and crossing the room to change the channels.  My friends, we have taken the remote control for granted for too long.  I believe it is time to celebrate the remote control.

Don't forget your old buddy - the remote control - has been there for you through thick and thin.  It helps you skip over commercials, mute annoying television moments, and change channels so you never have to watch a terrible show.  It is time to recognize the benefits our remote controls give us each day.  One day, your remote may stop working and imagine the devastation.   Just try hiding your remote for a day or two.  See how that works out for you.  We all need to take the time to appreciate the remote control.

America's Got Talent (or does it?)

America's Got Talent is back back back!  It is perhaps more ridiculous than ever, but yes, it is back.  So far, I've seen people fall off the stage, sing horribly, scare Howie, offend Piers, and just plain weird everyone out.  Let's face it, America's Got Talent is the new Gong Show.  They do not have a gong, but they can sure "X out" a bad performer. 

I will admit, I do miss David Hasselhoff a bit.  I mean, can you really keep the show going without the Hoff?  I guess you can, actually, since it is still airing without him, but it is not the same.  I like Howie, but he is no David Hasselhoff.  I will admit, as much as I enjoyed Jerry Springer hosting the show in the past, I do really like Nick Cannon now. 

For now, I need to run.  After all, America's Got Talent is on right now!  Even if I can't have the Gong Show come back on TV, I can still watch terrible performers on America's Got Talent.

5 Shows that Should Return to TV

You know, some people have major dreams in life.  Some people want to become president or end world hunger or find the cure for cancer.  I applaud these people.  People like that are ambitious and awesome.

Now, let's talk about me.  My dream in life is to see certain television shows come back to TV.  Yes, I know.  This not nearly as ambitious.  But I have a dream and I am sticking to it!

Ghost Adventures

Has anyone else noticed Ghost Adventures has taken over the Travel Channel?  Don't get me wrong - I watch the show.  There.  I just admitted to it.  I watch Ghost Adventures.  Is it the best show ever?  Of course not.  Do I believe half of what they show?  No, of course not.  Do I still watch it all the time.  Why, yes.  Yes I do. 

What I would like to know is if the true fans of the Travel Channel ever get angry about this?  I've noticed Ghost Adventures has a mini-marathon every single Friday and Saturday night.  I know they do travel while filming this show.  However, it is not really a travel show.  If I want to sit back and learn more about the best resorts in Hawaii, I would think I could get that from the Travel Channel.  I do not expect to turn on the Travel Channel and watch 6 hours of ghost hunting.  That is all I am saying.  Now I need to run so I can go watch some more Ghost Adventures episodes On Demand. 

No Royal Wedding

Well, no wedding bells were ringing for me.  Not only did I have no intention of watching the wedding, I just realized I missed it.  I've seen some of the photos on the internet, so now I know that: A) it occured, and B) I sure did not see any of it. 

I've always said I've never liked weddings.  I guess this is proof.  No weddings for me royal or otherwise - even if I could have watched it without even leaving the couch.

First Blog Ever!

I have never really blogged before, so if you are reading this, thanks.  Your bravery is much appreciated.  Apparently, I know a lot about crappy television.  I am not talking about the TV people watch when they want to increase their knowledge or expand their mind.  I am talking about the TV that no one admits to watching.  That is my area of expertise. 

Don't get me wrong.  I am not the type that follows every little piece of celebrity gossip.  I love Twilight, but I totally do not care what Rob Pattinson and Kristen Stewart did last weekend.  I do, however, care if the cast of Jersey Shore is going to Italy.  

Also, I care about food.  As a couch potato, I have to eat something while I am watching horrible television programs.  I obsess over food.  I love food.  I especially love junk food, but I am trying to cut back.  I will tell you something - a salad sure doesn't taste as great as chips when I am watching episodes of Teen Mom.
