SongPop on Your Mobile Device

Are you ready to play a game that will enable you to never move off your couch again?  Do you want to play a game that will make you neglect everyone in your life?  Are you tired of having a clean house and you would prefer to just let everything dusty while you play a totally useless music game?

Well, great!  I have the game for you! It is called SongPop and it will be your new addiction.  The game is quite simple.  You can download it to any mobile device and you challenge others to the game.  It is like playing Name That Tune, but at a much faster pace.

You can choose from playlists like 80s Collection, 90s Alternative, Classic Rock, Classic Rap, Modern Rap, Today's Hits, Alternative Country, Musicals, Nostalgic 20s - 60s, Love Songs, Modern Country, and many more.  You can battle against people you do not know or battle against your Facebook friends.  Within no time, you will no longer check your phone for texts or emails or calls.  You will check for SongPop challenges.  Your life is about to change!

The best part of the app is it is totally free unless you want to pay so the game will be commercial-free and you can hear longer samples.  You are about to embark on a new journey in your life... the SongPop journey!

"Somebody That I Used To Know" is Everywhere!

If you like Gotye and Kimbra's song, "Somebody That I Used To Know," you would probably be interested to know there are many other great versions of the song... like A LOT of versions of this song.

A band called Walk Off The Earth covered the song and posted their video to YouTube.  It has become an internet sensation since then.  It features the 5 bandmates at a guitar all playing the one guitar.  The musicians have great voices and they do a wonderful job with the song.

So then came the parodies!  There are parodies of the original version, parodies of the Walk Off The Earth version, and even parodies of parodies!  The entire "Somebody That I Used To Know" craze is now getting out of hand.  You can't even look at someone's blog without reading about it.  Like for instance, if you are reading this now, I am totally right!  You can't even read my blog without hearing about "Somebody That I Used To Know."

If you want to watch some of the "Somebody That I Used To Know" videos, you can either search on YouTube for a number of quality parodies or remakes of the song, or you can check out: The Many Versions of "Somebody That I Used To Know."  You will never get this song out of your head!

Rock Out to Some Actors!

Wait a minute!  Actors turned musicians!  You don't say!  Oh yes, I do.  Plenty of actors have tried to cross over into the music world.  Unfortunately, most actors do not succeed at all.  However, it sure is fun to watch their music videos.

If you'd like to check out a list of actors that attempted to become musicians, make sure to visit: The Best (And Worst!) Actors That Tried To Be Musicians.  You can see awesome videos from Bruce Willis, Eddie Murphy, Lindsay Lohan, Don Johnson, William Shatner, and so much more!

Whether you want to admit it or not, you might find yourself singing along.  You might even just like some of these songs.  Don't worry... no one ever has to know.

My Little Review of the New 120 Minutes

As I mentioned in a previous post, I was super excited to hear 120 Minutes was coming back on the air this weekend.  The new 120 Minutes premiered last night.  I taped it and just viewed the show.  It was an exciting time for me.

I have to say, Matt Pinfield looks like he has never aged.  He is the same guy I remember from the original 120 Minutes.  It was nice to hear some new bands, like the Joy Formidable and Cults.  I also enjoyed watching some old clips from artists like Radiohead.  A number of bands appeared on the show for interviews, as well.

If I had to be picky about anything at all, I would say I was a little sad the show featured interviews from Kings of Leon and PJ Harvey, but did not show any of their videos.  I was really excited because I thought perhaps PJ Harvey had a new video and I would get to see it, but no such luck.  I guess I can just hope for next week.

Overall, the new 120 Minutes is just as awesome as the original, and I can't wait to see the next episode.  Just the fact that this show exists again gives me hope for the music industry.  I believe there was a time when there wasn't enough decent music out there, but now there are enough new, talented artists to fill up at least 2 hours of air time each week.

Weird Al "Perform this Way" Update

For those of you interested in the full length Weird Al Yankovic video, "Perform this Way," I felt it was only fair to add it to this blog. This is the official full length video from Weird Al.  Now, who is else is wondering how long it will be before Lady Gaga decides the honey bee look in this video is something she is actually going to try?  I give her about a month.

Get Off the Couch and Celebrate the '90s!

I believe the time has come.  The 1980s parties have come and gone.  It is time to bring the '90s back.  Let's start having some 1990s parties.  We can break out the hypercolor t-shirts, flatten our bangs like Brenda and Kelly on 90210, and dance to Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer!  What could be more fun than that?

Even if you are into something a little less "pop" - why not break out the flannel shirts and let's listen to Nirvana and Pearl Jam?  Even better, we do not even have to get off the couch to watch Beavis & Butt-head reruns.  So what are you waiting for?  Check out some more ideas: It's Time for a 1990s Comeback!

VH1 You Ought to Know Artists

Finally, at long last, VH1 has been promoting some great new artists.  I thought the music industry was dead, but apparently, it is not.  VH1 has been promoting artists like The Civil Wars, Raphael Saadiq, and Fitz and the Tantrums.

I highly recommend searching for this artists on Youtube and listening to their music.  They are really awesome.  If you want to find all in one place, you can click on:
Maybe There is Hope for the Music Industry.

I Declare It Lady Gaga Day!

Unless you've been under a rock, I am sure you already know Lady Gaga's new CD was released today.  The new CD is called "Born This Way" and many of us have waited a long time for it.  I myself stood in line at Target to get the special edition CD that was stashed behind the counter.

Since this is such a great day for Lady Gaga fans, I believe this should be Lady Gaga Day!  After all, FUSE is already playing a steady stream of Lady Gaga interviews, videos, and specials the entire day.  They are having the Gaga-athon.

I think all readers should celebrate this great day.  It is Lady Gaga Day for everyone!

Kings of Leon

Do you own Kings of Leon's new CD Come Around Sundown?  If you do not, you are missing out.  I know it is tough getting off the couch sometimes, but you need to run to the store to get this CD.  If you download CDs, then download the whole CD.  It is amazing.  It is probably the best CD I've heard in about 10 years.  It has some awesome songs on it like Pyro, The End, and Birthday.  Go out and buy this CD now and you will not regret it!

Come Around Sundown is one of those CDs you can listen to from beginning to end without skipping a song.  That is rare find with today's music.  I predict this will be a classic that everyone will own.
